Fall 2024: new guidelines for plant exchanges
Our plant exchanges have been taking too long and gotten large enough to make it hard to see and hear, and receivers end up with unidentifiable plants, so please:
-
ONLY bring LABELED, pre-divided or easily separated plants to share
-
Dig/pot up your perennial divisions a few days in advance to ensure viability
-
Prepare and bring a BRIEF LIST of what you are offering and brief details
-
When feasible, include written info on each plant offered (plant names, your name, original source, light/water/other requirements, other helpful info)
-
Remove weeds from offered plants in advance
-
Indicate any evidence of jumping worms or other pests
-
Indicate if plant is hardened off or not
-
For houseplants—describe ideal conditions (light intensity/window direction, water)
-
do not bring known invasives (no ivy or orange daylilies)
-
indicate known aggressive or ‘vigorous’ plants
-
when possible, use recycled milk cartons, newspaper, bare-rooted plants, or other non-plastic transport options
-
take unclaimed plants back home with you
-
feel free to receive plants even if you don’t bring any/many
